This month we are featuring Two Neighbours’ collection of clutch bags. Two Neighbours operate on the ethos of “creating peace through the eye of a needle”, using the strong friendship of the founders and their love of creating beautiful products to build a business relationship that goes against the odds.
Miriam Givon, from Israel and Rehan Abu Sabha from Palestine, employ women from the marginalised sections of both Israeli and Palestinian society. These women carefully create each bag individually, using traditional techniques combined with modern fashion design to bring you this gorgeous collection.
The key focus for this brand is to empower their women artisans by providing a fair living wage. With a real income, women’s lives are improved dramatically – they can contribute to feeding and clothing their families and even have some say in the affairs of the family. They are able to pursue dreams of learning to drive a car, going to school to learn a new skill, and even buying a new dress for a family wedding. One woman says that with her wages she was able to take her husband out for dinner, a simple gesture that many of us women may have the luxury of doing regularly.
