Catrinka is an ethical fashion accessories label that invests in women and girls. Catrinka employs women in ten countries to make bags and donates a portion of the proceeds to educate girls in the countries where the products are made. Catrinka's artisanal luxury bags are made by hand from local textiles, and the artisans put a little bit of their soul into each one. Buy a Bag, Employ a Woman, Educate a Girl.
Meet the FoundersMegan Reilly Cayten, Sumana Setty & Amisha Patel
Three friends in New York City, all with international roots and a passion for investing in women and girls around the world started the Catrinka Project. Amisha is a designer and Sumana and Megan are avid collectors of beautiful things from around the world – things with a story and a soul. The three came together to form Catrinka in late 2012. The label is named after Megan’s 5-year old daughter, Caterina (nicknamed “Catrinka”).
Working with Catrinka provides economic opportunities to skilled women artisans who typically reinvest 90% of their income in their family and their community. Catrinka also donates a percentage of the retail price of each bag to educate girls in the countries where the bags are made. An educated girl will marry later; have fewer, healthier children; have increased economic opportunity; and create a better world for her family.
Catrinka have provided over 1,258 days of FAIR EMPLOYMENT to women in 7 countries.
