Guest Blogger of the Month: Pink 2.55

Amara Javed - Editor & Founder of Pink 2.55

What is the name of your blog?

Pink 2.55

Tells us about your blog and why you started it.

I started my blog after a few years of writing for fashion publications. I wanted to get away from editorial restrictions and be able to put my personal spin on things. There is something so liberating and satisfying to be able to write about things you want to as you want to. Also, I learnt there was a huge niche in the subcontinent for a blog that covered local and international fashion with the same panache.

Why is sustainable fashion so important?

Sustainable fashion is very important because we are living in a world with limited resources and it is up to us to protect and utilise those resources in the best way possible. Also I would like to mention that cruelty towards animals for the sake of fashion seems so unnecessary. I am not a PETA-type fanatic but having recently watched some gruesome videos of how your favourite furs are created has put things into perspective for me.

How would you describe your style / fashion sense?

Despite being a fashion fanatic and blogger, comfort is the most important aspect for me. I think I have done a good job in putting together a stylish and comfortable wardrobe - but I do have a bit of a quirky steak and like statement making pieces. I'm obsessed with accessories and shoes. You will probably see me wearing all black with a huge necklace, tons of rings and a bright lip.

Who do you admire in the world of sustainable fashion?

Stella McCartney is a superstar. She has managed to create a super successful, high-end luxury brand without using leather or fur. I also love Livia Firth for bringing attention to sustainable fashion/designers.

What are your favourite ethical brands and why?

I love Palestyle because they are constantly creating fun, ultra chic items which are hand made by female Palestinian refugees. I also applaud Fashion Compassion for bringing various ethical brands under one umbrella and creating awareness in all corners of the world.

What are your top tips for buying ethical and sustainable products?

It is important to research in order to identify a brand which works for a cause which is close to your heart.

What are your plans for the future?

I am always going to be blogging and I want to see Pink 2.55 grow in the future. I am stepping into my first corporate job (in fashion!) soon which is an adventure I am looking forward to. Other than that, I have a very Epicurean philosophy about life - live, drink and be merry!
