Emma Watson Named UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador

Emma Watson, one of Fashion ComPassion’s favorite celebrities has just been named UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador.

UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide.’ – UN Women, 2014

The Harry Potter star earned her role by promoting education for girls in Zambia and Bangladesh as part of her humanitarian efforts.
Watson has just graduated from Brown University at the age of 24, admitting that she still has ‘so much to learn’ but hopes to bring more of her own ‘individual knowledge, experience and awareness to the role.’

Emma Watson has always been a supporter of sustainable fashion, and has been involved in movements such as Net-a-Porter’s ‘Green Carpet Challenge’ in 2013 where she modelled countless sustainable designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Christopher Kane and Victoria Beckham to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable fashion.

Watson is thrilled and ‘humbled’ to be asked to serve as a UN Women’s Goodwill ambassador; she states that ‘the chance to make a real difference is not an opportunity that everyone is given and is one I have no intention of taking lightly.’
