The Alchemy Festival is one of the best known events that brings together the best of art, culture, fashion and music from South Asia. The festival is held every year at the Southbank Centre and this year took place from the 15th May to 26th May. This year Alchemy celebrated it’s 5th year running!
Many events took place during the festival, like free workshops, talks, performances, exhibitions and a lot of different food to choose from all over South Asia.
This year what caught our attention was Alchemy Fashion held on May 21st. The fashion event showcased young and emerging designers from Pakistan. The event started with the screening of a documentary exploring youth, dress and identity in Pakistan by the filmmaker William Williamson, it was co-commissioned by Dazed and will be premiered online in June at www.dazeddigital.com.
At the fashion show young Pakistani designers Indifference, Wardha Saleem, Mohsin Ali and Ali Xeenshan exhibited their work. These designers through their work showed their cultural identity, combining tradition craft with contemporary design. The film and the fashion collections, explored the ever-evolving South Asian identity. We can’t wait to see what the event will bring us next year, you won’t want to miss it!
